Delores's Heart & Home is a nonprofit organization inspired by Ms. Delores Foreman, the mother of our founder, Nita Gems. Our programs are developed to use the art of interior design and new furnishings to help promote longevity, influence mental stability and boost family morale. As we strive to provide our participants with inspiring environments and resources to help them with their next chapter in life, we are aiming to put forth the warm, loving efforts that Ms. Foreman has given to her own family. We will use these practices to assist those aging out of foster care and families who are transitioning from homelessness.

 

While living in public housing with three children, losing her co-parenting partner at such a young age and battling chronic health conditions, Ms. Foreman managed to make home feel like the best place in the world. Her warming environment was not only a gift to her children, but her siblings and other children in the neighborhood as well. There was not a person that walked through her doors that didn't feel comfortable, loved and carefully cared for. The strength that she has shown her peers is remarkable and she has taught us all that it is beyond possible to make due with what you already have. She somehow turned a two-bedroom government funded apartment for four into, what felt like, a large family home with a dinner table and enough motivational advice for everyone in the neighborhood. With her motivation to keep on living despite her constant financial and health battles, she has given us the encouragement to pass along the gift of loving and motivational environments.
